THE EFFECT OF GLOBAL ECONOMIC IMBALANCES ON THE MILITARY STRATEGY OF THE UNITED STATES AND CHINA The current and financial account imbalances of the United States with respect to China have increased in recent years, and are unsustainable in the medium and long run. The inevitable correction of these imbalances, together with a change in the growth trend of the Chinese economy, will lead to major changes in the U.S.’s global military strategy and in its relations with China in particular.
