ABSTRACT It intended to trace the life of a Catalan soldier, knight of St. John, who served with distinction in the War of Spanish Succession (1701-1714), dur-ing which he reached graduation lieutenant general with 34 years of age. He was the third youngest general of Philip V who obtained it, after 11 years of military services, but his progression through the generalship was far of being among the fastest, which lasted a bit more half of that time. Although he never had command over considerable forces, their performances in the Mastership, Castile’s borders with Aragon and Ribagorza, had an important echo in the gazettes of Madrid, Zaragoza and Barcelona, as well as in those of France, the Netherlands and Portugal, being that of Lisbon the only who published his death. With the support of unprecedented documents, are fo-cused the actions of Calamocha (1706) and Montañana (1709), both treated in very divergent manner by the biased and partisan information of that time. Finally, his time in various prisons between 1710-1715, their refusal to serve in Catalonia in 1713, the punishment and subsequent royal pardon, and his unsuccessful attempts to return to serve in “living war,” a great frus-tration for him, that could have had some relation with his premature death at 43 of its life. KEY WORDS: Count of Robres, Sangarrén, University of Huesca, knight of St. John, Malta, language of Aragon, Great Priory of Catalonia, Alcaniz, Morella, Field-Marshal, Almanza, Calamocha, Ribagorza, Monta-nana, Lieutenant general, Barcelona, Alcazar of Segovia. * * * * * Revista de Historia Militar, II extraordinario de 2014, pp. 87-148.
