SUMMARY: We present a case of a 41-year-old male who travelled to Valencia, Venezuela as a VFR (Visiting Friends and Relatives) and presented fever and arthromyalgias upon his return to Spain. The patient met clinical criteria for the diagno-sis of Chikungunya fever, recently introduced in the American continent, where a developing outbreak affects the country he travelled to. Serological testing in the reference laboratory confirmed this suspicion, detecting IgM against Chikungunya (CHIKV). Given that this arbovirosis is not well known in our environment and it is of military interest, we use this case, the first one diagnosed in our Hospital in the context of this epidemic, to review the situation of this disease and the epidemiology of the outbreak. SUMMARY: In 2012 came a new coronavirus in Jordan which was called Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) by causing the clinical picture. The virus has been displaced by the neighboring countries and notified imported cases in Europe, North America, Africa and Asia. Having declared an outbreak in South Korea where they have been produced to quaternary transmission. The agent is transmitted by air, by direct contact and by fomites; it has a fatality rate around 37%. So in the management of patients standard precautions, contact with infective secretions and airborne transmission shall be adopted when aerosol-generating techniques are applied. Due to the nature of the disease, it is a priority to establish in mili-tary units where the appearance of a case of prevention and infection control for suspected: Detect quickly and precociously suspected case; protect medical staff, other patients and other staff; and implement appropriate isolation measures. As a writer, he published books of memoirs about military epi-sodes and was a precursor of the fantastic literature in Spain. He was a friend of Espronceda, Campoamor, Larra and many others who participated in the famous gathering of “The Parnasillo” in “El Café del Príncipe” of Madrid. In the political aspect, he was minister of Isabel II, deputy and senator. SUMMARY: The army counts on two groups of NCOs to support the roles of doctors and pharmacists: the technicians. Those of the former group were studied in a previous article. This second article looks to encompass the trajectory of the latter group. The current pharmaceutical assistants, belonging to the basic NCO grade, are the descendants of militia medical professionals; although they are as old as warfare itself, their official incorporation into the military didn’t come about until 1945, as the fruit of a great historical legacy and they continue into the present day, carrying out an invisible labour amongst the NCO grades.
