Training and use Abstract 141 TRENDS IN HIGH ALTITUDE BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENSE: THAAD AND AEGIS ASHORE SYSTEMS The United States and its allies are experiencing a trend to strengthen their missile defence system due to the evolution of ballistic missiles -outfitted with increasingly improved range and accuracy- and its acquisition by potential rival countries. The protection of forces and targets to defend will be increased through the use of new systems to fight the threat with higher accuracy and longer range in the framework of an interoperable environment. In this regard, THAAD and Aegis Ashore are two missile defence systems that offer a good solution to the new ballistic missile threat. LEADERSHIP TRAINING: THE CHALLENGE FOR THE MODERN SCENARIO This article is aimed to stress the need to boost the leadership of the Platoon and Squad/Gun commanders, taking into consideration our doctrine and the trends in the use of Field and Antiaircraft Artillery. Therefore, we present the actions regarding leadership taken by the 20th Field Artillery Regiment (RACA 20), in line with the existing limitations; namely the concluded exercise EXLIDART 01/12. COUNTER IED, MISTAKES, LESSONS AND PROGRESS. The IED concept, in spite of keeping its original features, is experiencing a continuous change, which impels us to continue updating our knowledge at all command levels. Nowadays, the best tool to survive is to modify our tactical and operational procedures. THE CHECK POINT IN THE TRAINING OF THE NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS IN THE ARTILLERY SCHOOL. As the Spanish Army takes part in more and more missions abroad, the involvement of our gunners is accordingly increased. Since very often they have to perform non-specific functions of the branch but they are general combat fighters in these missions, we need to increase our training in these types of functions. One of these functions will be to establish a mobile check point on a road, and that is why we try to teach the basic concepts and tasks to this end at the Artillery School. CONVOY ESCORTS AND COUNTER-AMBUSHES IN THE TRAINING OF THE NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS IN THE ARTILLERY SCHOOL. The need to train our Cadets in the capability to perform general combat fighter missions, and to command units able to carry out convoy escorts and counter- ambushes, prompted the inclusion of specific objectives in the Non-commissioned officers syllabus by the Artillery School in order to reach those capabilities
