ABSTRACT In the second half of the 1960, partly in response to a new bibliographic study on the Spanish Civil War appeared abroad, and partly as a result of years of previous work, there appeared a series of essays that studied in detail the purely military aspects of the war (1936-1939). The authors were a series of military writers and researchers with different military graduations and belonging to different Services, and Branches. A very active historian of the time, Ricardo de la Cierva y Hoces called them collectively “the Colonels“. They were the brothers Ramon and Jesus Salas Larrazábal, Rafael Casas de la Vega, José M. Gárate de Córdoba, etc, and above all Jose Manuel Martínez Bande, Artillery Colonel and a well-remembered director of the working group on the Civil War in the Historical Military Service for many years. To them is dedicated this humble article.
