EL MISSISSIPPI Y LA FRONTERA CON ESTADOS UNIDOS DESPUÉS… 169 full time the Mississippi River from its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico to the city of St. Louis in Missouri. Fortunately there was no war with the United States although the unstoppable American population growth made the situation so untenable for Spain that it agreed in the Treaty of San Lorenzo in 1795, called Pickney-Godoy Treaty, to all US requests. Shortly thereafter, in 1800 our King Charles IV ceded the Louisiana to the French Napoleon Bonaparte who three years later sold to the United States everything he had received from Spain for a bargain price, without respecting the right of first refusal in favor of Spain established in the cession Treaty. The US kept the border dispute over the Louisiana until the Treaty of Limits of 1819, called Adams-Onis Treaty, which cut the Spanish possessions and had little effectivity in time for Spain due to Mexico´s independence in 1821. KEY WORDS: Border Treaties, 1819, Adams-Onis, Mississippi River, Louisiana, United States of America, Bernardo de Gálvez. * * * * * Revista de Historia Militar, I extraordinario de 2016, pp. 169-230.
