ABSTRACT In 1867, the national coverage press, which was published at Madrid, echoed of a such relevant new as the pass away of Leopoldo O’Donnell. However, the fact as itself, and such every single detail of the Corp transfer, of his mourns celebrations and his burial, was an excuse to fill the general information newspaper pages, ones as well as the pure information political, ones the opinion covered up as information ones and the pure opinion. Facing the dead of the Leader of such important political party as Unión Liberal, everyone set their positions, ones expecting to attract the sympathy of their affiliates, others expecting its dilution. Hence, eight newspapers has been reviewed –La Esperanza, La Regeneración and El Pensamiento Español, traditionalists, La España, conservative, El Pabellón Nacional, from moderate party, and La Correspondencia de España, El Imparcial y La Época, of general information–, and through them it is noticed quantitatively and qualitatively, with 232 journalist units, their different loyalties and interests.
