LA BATALLA NAVAL DE ACTIUM Julio ALBERT FERRERO Vicealmirante 2.ª Reserva Resumen He elegido un tema histórico naval de la época del imperio romano quizá no muy conocido pero interesante: el de la batalla naval de Actium, en tiempos del segundo Triunvirato romano, en el año 31 a.C., que fue una batalla decisiva, puesto que dio fin a la República romana y propició el nacimiento del Imperio y a la desaparición de la monarquía egipcia. Para situarnos debidamente en la propia batalla conviene hacer una breve síntesis sobre la historia de Roma en la antigüedad. Abstract I have selected a naval, historic subject from Roman times perhaps not well known but interesting, the battle of Actium, during the Second Roman Triumvirate in the year 31 BC, which was a decisive battle, as it led to the end of the Roman republic and the birth to the Roman empire, and also to the demise of the Egyptian monarchy. To get in proper place regarding the battle it is necessary to make a short synthesis of the history of Ancient Rome. Antecedentes históricos A historia de Roma se divide en tres etapas: ― Monarquía (750 AEC-509 AEC) (1) ― República (509-27) ― Imperio (27-14). L (1) Todas las fechas (tanto las dadas en años como en siglos), salvo indicación contraria, se refieren a datas anteriores a la era común (AEC), es decir antes de Cristo.
