EL PLANISFERIO CELESTE MEDIEVAL. CONCEPTO Y FORMA Resumen Francisco SAYÁNS GÓMEZ Capitán de Navío (R) Ingeniero Naval Interesado por el universo visible, el filósofo de la antigüedad intentó comprender su funcionamiento, identificó y aisló las constelaciones más significativas y trasladó virtualmente sobre ellas a personajes de su elenco mitológico. Después, buscó la forma de reproducir aquel fantástico escenario sobre un objeto próximo, y creó el globo celeste como soporte evocador de todo lo que observaba en el firmamento. Finalmente, pretendió trasladar las figuras desde este globo celeste al plano, para crear con ello los planisferios celestes, alguno de los cuales nos ha llegado en los manuscritos medievales de nuestras colecciones europeas. El trabajo explica el proceso y procede a una clasificación de estos documentos identificando sus características particulares. Abstract Fascinated by the visible universe, the Ancient Philosopher understood its importance. He identified and isolated the most significant constellations before assigning each of them a role in his mythological cast. Later, he looked for a way to reproduce this fascinating scene on a more accessible stage and, therefore, developed his theory of the celestial globe in order to support everything he witnessed in the night sky. Finally, he tried to transfer these images from this celestial globe to a flat plane in order to create his celestial maps, some of which have reached us through the medieval manuscripts in our European archives. This work seeks to further explain this process and make a classification of these documents, identifying each of their particular characteristics. Año 2018 REVISTA DE HISTORIA NAVAL 107
