14 ISABEL BUENO BRAVO ABSTRACT Much has been written about one of the most epic pages of history, brought about by a “handful of men” that were able to defeat the greatest empire created in Mesoamerica in this time. But, is this the only truth or there were indigenous groups from the very beginning that supported Cortés in his struggle and that joined another ones who deserted the Mexican side to ally with him and overthrow Moctezuma II? We will answer through the following pages these and other questions, that up to now are obscuring the understanding of what it was the conquest of Mexico-Tenochtitlan. KEY WORDS: Allies, Tlaxcala, Hernán Cortés, Tenochtitlan, Moctezuma II, conquest of Mexico. * * * * * Revista de Historia Militar, 118 (2015), pp. 14-42. ISSN: 0482-5748
