44 JUAN ANTONIO GÓMEZ VIZCAÍNO ABSTRACT Spanish keys to the Mediterranean Sea: Gibraltar, Cartagena and Perpignan… (Tiburcio Espanochi) The preparation and evolution of the urban defensive wall works become very important in the historical development of the cities and remain closely related to the political, economic and cultural development of their urban environment. Furthermore, after several centuries since their construction, there are still remains of their structure, a high value heritage. Regarding this subject, our brief work tries to outline the particulars relative to the wall built in Cartagena City in the sixteenth Century, whose remains, though scarce, have reached our days, and that, recently restored are presented to the citizenry in a very proper historical setting. KEY WORDS: Sixteenth Century Wall, City of Cartagena. * * * * * Revista de Historia Militar, 118 (2015), pp. 44-76. ISSN: 0482-5748
