88 ENRIQUE GARCÍA CATALÁN ABSTRACT This article aims to analyze the solutions adopted in Salamanca du-ring the nineteenth century to house the troops who passed through the city in times of peace and war, and to treat the wounded and sick were sent in times military conflict. Taking as starting point the plight during the War of Independence, special attention is given to the provisions during the First Carlist War and the subsequent interest in establishing permanent barracks, serve to support the squares of Ciudad Rodrigo Zamora, and contribute to the economic prosperity of the population.
