Maritime operations led by Washington have preserved freedom of navigation and protection of security in one of the most important shipping routes in the world. However, the arrival of two new presidents to the scene, Rodrigo Duterte in the Philippines and Donald Trump in the United States, has modified the existing alliance scheme, in addition to the apparent differences in Washington and Beijing's vision on the design of the new world order.
