ABSTRACT
The history of the guards of Castile is that of the set of ordinances
that originate, from the beginning of the sixteenth century, until the end of
its existence, in the first decade of the next century. In these can be verified
the concern of the ruler to efficiently equip this unit and to fulfill its service
and functions. However, the increasingly complex international situation
will cause successively the reforms that are projected from the beginning
to be postponed again and again, without their efficacy being demonstrated
and, therefore, their raison d’être. This article takes a look at these ordinances
and reveals the inoperability of the reforms, either because they are not
monitored for compliance, or because they are transposed and ineffective in
their renewal objectives.
KEY WORDS: Ordinances, guards, renewal, breach, inefficiency.
