English Corner THE ENGLISH CORNER THE ENGLISH CORNER IS BACK As it was in the past, from now on Tierra newspaper will include an area dedicated to help you to prepare for the SLP exam. In this issue we have decided to focus on the composition. In future, we will include different topics tackling the rest of the areas of the exam. Here you can find two examples of SLP compositions, one for level 2 and another one for level 3. Each one includes the question proposed and an example of a successful answer. Level-2 prompt and response You are filling out an application for a teaching position. The application form asks for you to cite a specific experience you have had or training you have received that has prepared you for this job. Describe this experience or training in detail. State why and how you feel this experience or training will benefit your prospective employer and students. I have studied English in high school and in the university too. It was at the university when I decided to be an English major. I spent my junior year in England. That was a rewarding and great experience for me; it really helped me to become better at English because I had to speak it almost every day just to survive there. When I was living in England, I took many English courses at University too. I took English-German translation, English literature and English history. There, I was able to meet English people, with whom I still keep contact. From my point of view, my adventure in England has been an essential experience in order to become an English teacher. My knowledge, not only about the language itself but also about the tradition and the folklore has increased too. I think students are also interested about all these kind of topics, becoming intercultural competent at the same time they learn about the language and the content of a country. 68
