Such reality ran parallel to the incorporation of war as a topic –alongside all its expressions and consequences– in writings of the most diverse typology since the central centuries of the Middle Ages. The following pages analyze the influence exerted by religious discourse, as well as direct action of certain clergymen, upon the construction and development of military language within the legal and institutional framework of Castile between the 13th and 14th centuries.
