270 IVÁN CURTO ADRADOS ABSTRACT The Viking raids of the 9th – 11th centuries had a significant impact on Western Europe. The Church –a sacred and trans-regional institution–, one of the pillars of High Medieval society, suffered the blunt of the pillaging with shock. These pages offer a comparative analysis of the theological view of the pagan aggression, as well as of the diverse intellectual, material and military reactions of the clergy in the Anglo-Saxon, Frankish and Hispanic contexts, paying special attention to the latter. KEY WORDS: Vikings, Church, Western Europe, theological conception, ecclesiastical reaction, war. * * * * * Revista de Historia Militar, I extraordinario de 2018, pp. 270-300. ISSN: 0482-5748
