184 Revista del Instituto Español de Estudios Estratégicos (IEEE) Núm. 5 / 2015 Abstract Within countries of Near East, Lebanon has suffered many times the consequences of the conflicts that took place in the area. The creation of the State of Israel added a risk to Lebanese stability because another actors, countries and groups, used the southern Lebanon territory to attack the inconvenient neighbor. Israel has invaded in several occasions the south of Lebanon with the purpose to get the necessary depth and avoid the continuous aggressions. When this happened the alarm lighted up in the international community because it threated the world peace. In 1978, the United Nations sent a military contingent (FINUL) to the south of Lebanon, reinforced in 2006, to control the area, increase the security of Lebanon and stabilize the whole region. Despite some problems, the time has showed the effectiveness of this good decision and the importance that the control of south of Lebanon, with the presence of blue helmets, has for the peace.
