Abstract 126 Recent News, Trends and Insights in Artillery TRENDS IN ARTILLERY ◊  Neighboring countries continue reviewing the concepts of use as well as the structures of coordination, observation and fire support cells and teams. ◊  The concern to improve all kinds of ammunition is being confirmed: accurate projectiles and fuzes, and conventio - nal ammunitions. ◊  The deployment of six Patriot missile batteries has been completed in Turkey. ◊  The priorities in NATO studies, regarding air defense, are: C-RAM combat, against SSL (slow, small, and low) targets, and GBAD operations. ◊  Manual PD4-322 “Airspace management” has been concluded, and is currently pending clearance. Training and use THE ARTILLERY PEOPLE IN AFGHANISTAN. ASPFOR XXXII The article deals with the contribution of the Artillery troops of the Spanish contingent in Afghanistan ASPFOR XXXII. They are devoted to multiple tasks; most of them are supporting the fulfillment of the main mission, such as the Base Support Unit (UABA), but there are also Artillery troops who carry out tasks where specific training is needed, like the CIMIC Unit, and some Artillery troops who work in their typical jobs, such as the PASI Unit (Intelligence Sensorised Autonomous Platform), the OFA teams (Air Fire Observers), or the combat support mentors to the Kandak 4/3. NETWORK FIRES “Network fires” is the set of sensors, effects delivery means and those command and control assets that allow managing the commander´s objectives timely. The system would develop integrated attack solutions to accomplish the commander´s intent. It would take profit of all or some of the joint and/or combined land force sensors, to locate and manage targets with a wider range of lethal and non-lethal effects, taking advantage of the whole force capabilities. COMMUNICATIONS IN THE FIELD ARTILLERY Along my military career, communications have evolved to such an extent, unbelievable back in 1974, when I joined the Armed Forces. Nowadays, not only a high specialization is needed, but also there is a need of special knowledge so that the Command can be assisted on the best use and deployment of all those means.
