The British Presence in the Spanish Military

Autor: Spanish Commission of Military History

The British, encompassing the English, the Welsh and the Scots, and being very difficult to separate the Irish from them in some periods, have performed in a multitude of settings and stages, under the Spanish flags.

Colección: Cuadernos de Historia Militar

This presence, sometimes punctual, has had a continuity in time, from the process of the Peninsular Reconquest, until the middle of the last century, ending in 1939. The authors will reel off, in seven chapters, the details and characteristics of this participation.
There are differences in this presence with those studied in previous works. British participation in the Spanish military will present a different character, since there are no families that intend to lead the group and thereby obtain benefits or privileged positions for the services rendered; there will be no national lobby, their individual interests have governed the participants.
This work does not intend to cover the entire presence of British in the Spanish military, but rather to present a sample of it, paving the way for further work.
