MEMORIAL ARTILLERIA 174-1

Abstract 138 History A few notes on the links between the artillery branch and the lady of la Fuencisla Since the Royal Artillery School was founded by Carlos III in 1764, the Artillery Branch has kept closely linked not only to the place where the school was raised, Segovia, but also to all those things concerning this notable town. Our Lady of La Fuencisla, patron Lady of Segovia, is tightly attached to its people. Artillery people, who are Honorary Segovians, have been witnesses and agents to the reverence Segovia and its territory devote to Our Lady of La Fuencisla. The Academy personnel and Field Artillery Regiment 41 have paid visits to the shrine, on the banks of the Eresma river. Many of them have got married in front of the Virgin of the ‘Peñas Grajeras’ (Crags full of crows). We are going to recall some outstanding moments of the relationship between the Artillery Branch and Our Lady of La Fuencisla. Mr. José-Miguel Espinosa Sarmiento, Archivist, Cathedral of Segovia Speech on the events on MAY 2ND 1808 A tribute to Captains Luis Daoiz and Pedro Velarde, heroes of the Peninsular War, who died serving their country, given by Artillery Captain José Manuel Martín Areal.
