ABSTRACT The first decades of X century meant a change in military learning in Spain which ended with the reopening of The General Military Academy (GMA) in 1927, in Zaragoza. This period of three years was known, in army circles as the second age of the general. It meant the unification of military education in only one center as it had already happened between 1882 and 1893, in what was called the first epoch. However, its closure was ordered with the proclamation of the Republic and it was replaced by two huge academies: one, the Infantry, Cavalry and Service Corps in Toledo, and the other was Artillery and Engineers in Segovia; it was not reopened again until after the Civil War, when it begun its third period that lasts until today. The aim of this research is to explain the military education in the chosen period covering as much its defects and possible improvements in centers such as the GMA, the Superior School of War (SSW) and, lesser extent, the Infantry Academy (IA), as the stances for and against a common formation for the officers. KEY WORDS: Spain, 20th century, military learning, General Military Academy, Infantry Academy, Superior School of War, Primo de Rivera, Azaña. * * * * * Revista de Historia Militar, 121 (2017), pp. 52-90.
