130 ANTONIO CARLOS CAMPO LÓPEZ ABSTRACT During the seventeenth century in the southeast Spanish asian im-perium border happened one of the most unknown episodes in the Spanish militar history. Since 1606 until 1649 the United Provinces and Spain fought to dominated one land, although distance, had a huge economic and strate-gic position. Her distance from Manila, lack of sources and the presence of strong enemies within a few kilometers from the Spanish garrisons, made Moluccas one of the most difficult territories for Spanish soldiers. In Ter-nate, on the morning of July 18th, 1649 more than one hundred spaniards accompanied by a half thousand local allies launched an attack on the main Dutch fort. The study of the battle, its background and its consequences, will help us to known how was the Spanish presence in north Moluccas in XVII century.
