TECHNICAL NOTE 28 New Technologies for Military Health System Crego Vita DM., García Cañas R., Areta Jiménez FJ. SUMMARY: The treatment of combat casualties in the area of operations presents a set of challenges, including the logistical challenge of providing sterile surgical materials to military surgeons. 3D printing can offer a solution to overcome the logistical challenge by using resistant, durable and biocompatible thermoplastic resins, which can be formed into any shape, by additive manufacturing, to produce sterile and on demand surgical instruments in a deployed medical echelon outside the national territory. REPORTS 40 Women’s Contribution to the Armed Forces International Missions. Escrivá Ortuño B. SUMMARY: Background: Until just a decade, women have been largely excluded from participating in war as active subjects. After the 1325 Resolution of the UN Security Council in October 2000, incorporation of women to armies in peace-keeping missions and post-conflict reconstruction has been generalized, being the main objective of the “Action Plan of Government of Spain” approved in 2007 to “Enhance Women´s Participation in Missions and Decision-Making Bodies”. Objective: To determine the level of compliance in relation to the participation of women in the Spanish army in peace-keeping processes and post-conflict reconstruction. Materials and methods: Design: It is an observational, retrospective, descriptive and longitudinal study. Ambit: Spanish army, during the period between January 1993 and December 2015. Population: women who have joined the Spanish army during the studied period and have participated in international tours of duty. Results: During the studied period, an increase of women in the different armies that participated in international missions has been observed, being 2014 the year with maximum participation of women, 12.5%. Conclusions: An increase in the proportion of women participating in international missions (FAS), as well as their access to positions of greater responsibility has been observed. SUMMARY: Spanish troops deployed on international operations all over African tropical areas can be exposed to high-risk situations due to severe infectious diseases that can affect the population under their responsibility as well as to the possible use of biological weapons in current international conflicts. In this situation the Spanish Unified Defense Medical Command and, in this particular case, the Spanish Unit Medical Evacuation (UMAER) updated their NBC defense procedures since the beginning of these missions of Spanish armed forces in Africa. Initially the response capability to this biological threat was reinforced in these territories, and afterwards training was carried out for the possibility of MEDEVAC missions of patients with infectious diseases in order to receive definitive treatment on national territory. This article is a report of what happened during these missions. It is a recognition of all people involved and their efforts. SUMMARY: At the present time, the tobacco abstinence rates increase up to 50% with the therapeutic arsenal available, in the best-case scenario. That is why we are in the need for new treatments that achieve higher abstinence rates per year, given that smokers who remain are those with greater dependence. Also, we must give a thorough look into new possibilities 4  Sanid. mil. 2017; 73 (1)
