The surface runoff of a large endorheic basin shared between eight countries in the heart of the Sahel, some of which are the poorest in the world, run into this lake. The climate is tropical with very marked dry and wet seasons. From time to time, it shows arid characteristics, when the precipitation associated with the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone, and typical of the rainy season, is not intense. Rainfall is generally heaviest in the south and very sparse in the north, where the Sahara Desert is located (figure 11) Figure 11.
