IDIOMAS
Spanish natives, trying to find out what
that person wanted to say. The real meaning
46
of the sentences will come up just
soon afterwards, so let’s see how good
you are at “deducing” (you can find more
examples in the following link):
1. I floor to study
2. I’m fertilized to Real Zaragoza
3. This weapon has been designed for
bullfighters
Interesting, isn’t it? Obviously, an English
speaker WILL NEVER make out what those
sentences mean, neither what the person
who writes or says any of those wants to
express. Have you already guessed the
real meaning and the process the person
has followed? Here are the answers:
1. Suelo estudiar
2. Estoy abonado al Zaragoza
3. Este arma ha sido diseñada para diestros
AMAZING would be one of the best adjectives

those people’s minds when putting those
sentences into English.
In the case of the first sentence the person
didn’t even care if the term was a verb
or a noun, so he/she just looked up the
word “suelo” and didn’t care about the
rest of the options.
Regarding the second sentence obviously
the term that was looked up was “abonar,
abonado” without taking into account
that this word has different meanings in
Spanish. That person just chose the first
one he found.
As for the third case it cannot be read
without cracking up. How is it possible
that somebody can make such a big
twist with that word? It may take quite a
long time to find out what the non-native
speaker really meant with the sentence.
It is a real challenge even for a Spaniard,
so let’s imagine the complexity it can have
