38 | L’EXERCICE CANARE X 21: LA
BRIGADE «CANARIAS» XVI EST
PROJETÉE ET COMBAT À SAN
GREGORIO
38 | CANAREX 21: THE 16TH
“CANARIAS” BRIGADE HAS
BEEN PROJECTED AND IS
ENGAGED IN SAN GREGORIO
CANAREX 21 is the largest, most complex and most ambitious exercise
to have been conducted by the 16th “Canarias” Brigade in its thirteen
years of history.
The largest, due to the number of personnel and resources mobilized,
not only from the Brigade, but from other Units lending their support
during the exercise.
The most complex, due to the innovative nature of a projection and deployment
of such a magnitude from the Canary Islands to the CENAD
of San Gregorio by land, sea and air; all during a pandemic.
And the most ambitious, due to the quantity and quality of the exercises
carried out, in which both Combat, Combat Support and Logistic
Support Units have been integrated into the Brigade or have lent their
support thereto.
62 | CURRENT TECHNOLOGICAL
DEVELOPMENTS AND THE
UNKNOWN ELECTRONIC WAR
The introduction of major advancements in the Armed Forces, increasing
the number of radiating devices on the battlefield, the bandwidth they
use, and the reliance on a limited number of technologies has given rise
to new vulnerabilities.
Electronic warfare actions occurring during the conflicts in Syria and
Ukraine have demonstrated the consequences of small actions carried
out on the electromagnetic spectrum.
88 | HERNÁN CORTÉS: “FATHER OF
THE MEXICAN NATION”
With the 5th Centenary of the taking of Tenochtitlán—the capital of the
Aztec empire—by Hernán Cortés, it is time to put our preconceptions to
one side, and look at the conquest of Mexico for what it was: an encounter
between two cultures, one native and one Spanish. From this perspective,
today’s Mexico should understand that its lifeblood, culture and
nation are mestizo. They are the product of the fusion of indigenous and
Spanish elements, both of which should be a source of pride.
